Butter-toasted pound cake topped with sweetened fresh cream and strawberries…
Ladies and gentlemen, do not make this a habit.
It's not complicated enough to only have on special occasions so, beware.
Simply toast two slices of homemade or store-bought (eek!) vanilla pound cake in 1 ½ T of unsalted butter. Top with as much sweetened whipped cream and strawberries as you like. Just remember though to prep strawberries in advance, as they need time to meld with the sugar and lemon juice.
Sweetened Strawberries
1 pint strawberries, hulled and sliced
¼ C granulated sugar
2 T freshly squeezed lemon juice
Toss all ingredients to coat strawberries. Refrigerate 2 hours to release juices.
